THE SLEEP SCIENCE & EDUCATION FOUNDATION

“Sleep is the single most effective thing we can do each day to rest our brain and body health.”

– Professor Matthew Walker

The Mission

The Global Sleep Education Foundation has a singular purpose: to solve the global sleep-loss epidemic through transformational education programs, free for all.

The Global Sleep Education Foundation is dedicated to making sleep education widely accessible and impactful, supported by your donations, and our partners. Our focus is on spreading accurate, science-backed information through digital campaigns and strategic partnerships. We’re integrating sleep education into everyday platforms, from fitness apps to in-flight entertainment, to ensure that people across the globe can easily access essential knowledge about sleep health. By working with public figures and industries, we aim to amplify our message and make sleep a central topic in public discourse.

Looking ahead, the goal of The Global Sleep Education Foundation is to leverage technology and research to advance sleep health globally. We are developing personalized sleep solutions that cater to individual needs, helping people improve their sleep in tailored ways. Our development of a Global Sleep Health Index will offer a comprehensive metric for assessing sleep health across populations, supporting international health initiatives. By fostering innovation in sleep technology and nurturing new ideas, we aim to create lasting improvements in global sleep health, ensuring our work leaves a positive and enduring impact on health and well-being worldwide. Thank you for your support of sleep science and global sleep education! — Dr. Matt Walker (Matt)

The Why

There is no central sleep resource for doctors and healthcare professionals. None. Doctors only receive an average of 1.4 hours of sleep education during medical school, despite sleep affecting a third of their patients’ lives. This must change.

No major government has instigated a public health awareness campaign about sleep. Why? Furthermore, one in three people you pass on the street does not get sufficient sleep.

Clear, scientifically valid, comprehensive education must be democratically and freely available to adults, to school systems, and thus to children around the world. Indeed, the WHO has no set of global sleep education tools.

All of this must change. All are targets of the Foundation for Global Sleep Education and its mission.

“The silent sleep loss epidemic is one of the great public health challenges we face in the 21st century.”
